OUR MISSION
The mission of the Bonny Doon Family Coop is to facilitate a strong community and support network for families through cooperative partnerships between parents.
WHO WE ARE
We are group of around fifteen families living in upper and lower Bonny Doon. Some of the co-op kids go to daycare, some don’t, some attend BD Elementary or Pacific school and some homeschool. What holds us together is our shared desire for community, and the knowledge that together really is better. We get together for play and family fun that is fulfilling for both the big kids (adults) and the little ones too.
WHAT WE DO
Weekly Group Play Dates are times we gather at a park or open space for kids to play and snack and parents to connect. We often take turns watching kids, so parents can take a break. Some of our favorite spots include Bosch Bahai School, Upper Fall Creek, The Eco-Reserve, Garfield Park, Felton Farmers Market or Redwood Loop at Henry Cowell and, of course, our own homes.
Monthly Family Potlucks are hosted by a member as a way for moms, dads and kids to connect more, while providing easy dinner solutions during the week or on the weekend.
Trading Childcare is a nice way of supporting one another and trades of all kinds organically emerge, as relationships deepen.
Annual Family Camping Trip is at a nearby state or national park, where we share meals and all keep an eye out for kids who run around and get dirty.
OTHER WAYS WE CONNECT:
- Helping out a family with a meal drop off during times of stress, sickness or just because!
- Getting together for special kid friendly activities like pumpkin patch, Felton farmers market etc
- Mama’s only Sat. or Sun. morning or girls night out
- Partnering to take turns watching kids and taking breaks during a play date
- Celebrating birthdays and other transitions together
- Sharing hand-me-down clothes, toys and kid gear
- Sharing parenting advice or simply offering listening and moral support
- Child-care trades: Arranging to babysit for one or more children on a specific date.
- Shared Outings: Taking one or more children to an event/outing in the neighborhood, in Bonny Doon or nearby. (a museum, a pumpkin farm, the park, etc.)
Like all good things in life, this co-op has emerged organically in response to the needs and desires of a small group of dedicated people with a shared vision. This means we all take turns pitching in to plan and coordinate the fun stuff we do together. There is a lot of flexibility to meet each family where they are at so they can get the most out of the co-op.
